Our Girls retain their team Semi Contact European Title at BCKA Invitational

Eighteen of our students made the trip to Corby to compete at Alex Barrowman’s BCKA European Invitational Tournament where fighters from Ireland, England, Germany, Scotland and Germany were competing.

The highlight of the day came late in the afternoon with a tremendous contest between our girls Mia Woodward, Kyrah Khan and Ruby Hoyle against an Irish threesome in the team semi contact final which saw our girls eventually come out on top in what was a very tight affair. Mia was up first and was narrowly defeated by a couple of points, Kyrah followed and secured a win with an advantage of 4 points. The final fight saw Ruby step onto the mat needing to not lose by more than 1 point for our girls to retain their title, as the fight started neither fighter could get a clear advantage with points being scored evenly, Ruby seemed to spend more time in the lead but as the tension built her opponent kept pegging her back, the fight continued to ebb and flow as the watching spectators cheered their respective teams on at fever pitch and in the closing seconds Ruby got the lead and did not relinquish it giving her the win and the team a 2 – 1 victory.

Prior to all the excitement of the girls team final we saw some tremendous individual performances with Hallie – Jo Talbot, Mia Woodward, Ruby Hoyle and the ever improving Bradley ‘O’Shea all winning their Light and Semi Contact divisions, others winning divisions included Patrick Hoyle, Kyran Henry – Jones and Brad Derbyshire in light contact and Kyrah Khan and Jason Parkinson in semi contact.

Silver medals went to Harvey Grenfell and Johnny Hoyle in both light and semi contact,  Robbie Law, Kyrah Khan, Jason Parkinson and Tejay Bacon were all placed second in light contact, Tejay’s result against Cole Rochester was somewhat bizarre as Tejay clearly appeared to have done more than enough to win the contest with Cole looking as surprised as anyone at his victory. Kyran Henry – Jones completed the silver medal tally with a second place in semi contact.

Bronze Medals went to Brad Derbyshire, Ben Parkinson, Patrick Hoyle and Robbie Law in semi contact whilst young Braxton Windle charmed the crowd as well as the referee Richie Wooton throughout his light contact division as he went on to claim a bronze medal as a very proud mum Chloe Love looked on.

We had a very successful day coming away with 13 Wins, 9 seconds and 5 thirds and a girls team victory that will live long in the memory. Well done to everyone on a terrific result.
