Girls make a point at Ippon Showdown in York

Five of our students were selected to compete at in the inaugural Ippon Showdown held at the Memorial Hall at York University. With thirty one bouts on the fight card the event was split into an afternoon and evening show. First up in the afternoon was Romeo Navaratnam competing in points who unfortunately was the wrong side of a 6 – 4 score line in what was a very close contest. Ruby Hoyle followed shortly afterwards and recorded a 12 – 9 points victory against Caitlin Downes from Absolute. We had to wait a further ten fights before our last fight of the afternoon show featuring Mia Woodward who gave a commanding performance winning her points contest 17 – 2.

Tejay Bacon opened up the night show in a light contact contest against another opponent from Absolute (Anthony Casey), making his usual flamboyant entrance in his fight robe Tejay gave an impressive performance going on to secure our third win of the event. Harvey Grenfell followed shortly afterwards against a very impressive Lewis Blackburn from Emulous who was the eventual winner of a very good fight.
