Zaki makes impressive Tournament Debut at the ‘Battle of the Border’

On Sunday 10th of April twelve of our students crossed the border into North Wales to compete at the inaugural ‘Battle of the Border’ tournament.

As with previous events this year we saw debuts for several of our students, this time it was the turn of Brayden Dearden and Zaki Razzaq to enter the fray for the first time and Zaki in particular did not disappoint registering wins in both his Light and Semi contact divisions.

There were plenty of other winners too with Mia Woodward also winning both her divisions and Tejay Bacon, Oliver Wade, Tegan Dearden and Ruby Makin winning in Light Contact and Ava Casey and brother Ethan winning in Semi Contact.

Second Places went to Tom Makin, Ava and Ethan Casey, Ayla Mortimer and Brayden Dearden in Light Contact and Oliver Wade and Tegan Dearden and Ayla Mortimer in Semi Contact with Third places going to Brad Derbyshire in Light Contact and Ruby Makin and Brayden Dearden in Semi Contact.

On what was a very rewarding day for the academy in many ways all eleven students who attended ended up being placed in the top three in one or both categories which was an excellent result.

Well done to everyone, in particular those students who are taking those initial first steps on the tournament ladder.
