Six of the best enjoy double success at the WKKC Nationals

Twenty two of our students made the short journey to Bradford to compete at this year’s National Championships all hoping to book their chance to be part of the England squad at the World Championships in Niagara Falls in November.

Of our twenty two, six enjoyed double success winning in both light and semi contact, Shannon Bacon, Patrick and Ruby Hoyle, Mia Woodward, Kyrah Khan and Kyran Henry – Jones were all crowned double National Champions whilst Kaiya Henry – Jones and Harvey Grenfell registered wins in semi and light contact respectively giving the academy a total of fourteen gold medals.

Silver medals went to Tejay Bacon and Kaiya Henry – Jones in light contact along with Bradley ‘O’ Shea and Harvey in semi contact. Bronze Medallists in light contact included father James and daughter Ava Casey as well as Bradley ‘O’ Shea, Ben Parkinson, Idress Hussain whilst in semi contact Romeo Navaratanam, Ben and Jason Parkinson and Idress Hussain grabbed bronze medals.

With a total of 14 golds, 4 Silvers and 9 Bronze Medals won it was a really good day for the academy however we came away wondering what it could have been if several of our fighters including Brad Derbyshire, Robbie Law and Romeo Navaratanam who were all not at their best having been ill on the day.
